Pistoia Mountains Museum System

SIMOP – Pistoia Mountains Museum System – was established in 2019 (Agreement signed on 1st June 2020), with the intention of creating an instrument to safeguard, enhance and promote the cultural and environmental heritage of the Montagna Pistoiese region, based on already existing and consolidated structures in the area.

Within a homogeneous framework in terms of historical-cultural, social, economic and environmental characteristics, the purpose of SIMOP is to foster cooperation, facilitate the coordination of cultural, educational and dissemination activities, improve the quality level of the services on offer, encourage the use of museums, their assets, and – more in general – of all resources available in the area of reference.

The System currently involves four entities:

  • the Ecomuseum of the Pistoia Mountains, participating with the thematic routes of its original structure;
  • the Botanical Forest Garden, Abetone;
  • the Archaeological Naturalistic Museum (MuNAP), Gavinana;
  • the Chestnut and Charcoal Route, Orsigna.
