the ice

The ice trail (green trail on the map) gives the opportunity to retrace the history of the natural ice production, that developed on the Pistoiese Mountain between the latest 18th century and the first decades of 1900. This process took place along the Reno Valley way.

Madonnina ice-house
via Modenese SR 66-Le Piastre,
where natural ice was stored. 

Opening hours:
July/August - Saturdays, Sundays and 15/08 guided visits at 4.30 and 5.45 pm (meeting place in the car-park at bus shelter)

Ice learning centre
via della Noce - Pracchia.
It consists in a collection of photographic and audiovisual documentation about this proto-industrial activity. It also exhibits authentic tools and two plastic models: the first one reproducing the section of  the Madonnina and the second one reproducing one of the first artificial ice factories. 

Guided visits by appointement (groups of min.10 people)

Ecomuseum trekking - The ice path
The 9 km long path connects Le Piastre to Pontepetri and links two of the spots of the Ecomuseum of the Pistoiese Mountain (the ice path and the Madonnina ice-house with the Iron Museum and educational Garden). 

It is an open air trail. A cautious behavior and a suitable clothing are required.
